Summer has a funny way of passing by at a rapid pace, if you don’t run away for the weekend as often as possible it fleets and then it’s cool again. This year it took a bit longer to warm up, which is completely fine with us. So when it did get hot we drove up north to Lake Superior along the lower shoreline and enjoyed escaping from cell service and ran around on the beach, swam along the lake bottom searching for agates and yooperlites, and enjoyed each others company snuggling and playing in the soft sand under the drift wood cabana we found. If you didn’t get a chance to check out Day One of our trip, you can see those images and read our story here.
Day Two started with a simple breakfast of toast & oatmeal at our cabin then heading back to the beach for a few hours we enjoyed the warmth from the sun while we swam, then cooled off under the cabana while playing in the sand. The boys decorated our annual summer trip “Helgeson” sign in the sand. This year they made it extra fancy with rocks. Troy took some much needed photos of me and my sweet boy playing together, ones I’ll treasure forever.
After several hours exploring every inch of the beach, rocks, and drift wood piles we headed back home, but not before taking our chances in the Sunflower Maze in Garden, Michigan for the second year in a row. It’s the perfect mid way stop that gets us out of the car for about an hour to explore the maze, play in the tractor, and play with the large ball/dart target before heading back home.
